Remembering the Blessings of Summer

O gracious creator of summer,
maker of the grassy dunes, the sandy shore,
the summer winds and the water,
help me to stay in awe at your mysterious craft.
You are the life force
in the green, swaying trees, the gliding hawk,
the still heron and the jumping fish that go “plop” in the silent evening.
Help me to care for these, your marvelous creations.
Help me to feel one with them, protect them and preserve them.
O Lord of Sunshine, may I remember in darker moments
the warmth that embraces me as I walk out into each summer day,
the warmth that says:
“I am your God. I have written your name on the palm of my hand.”
